Our Process

GreenClean Fabric Care Services has two main methods of processing clothes; The Grean Earth silicone process and the Wet cleaning method. Both technologies are fairly new yet are moving into cleaners accross the globe fairly rapidly. We like to say we have the two best technologies at our facility to produce the best results.

Green Earth is a company in partnership with companies such as General Electric and Proctor & Gamble for research and development of a alternative to the harsh chemical Perc. Green Earth silicone is based on the same ingredients found in deodorant, facial creams and body lotions. It's odorless, clear properties are 100% safe for you and the environment.

‘Wet’ Cleaning is a relatively new process using the age old natural solvent, water. Professional cleaners have long known about the penetrating power and cleaning capabilities of water. However, delicate garments such as silks, linens, woolens, and rayon's are being dry-cleaned because they are susceptible to damage (i.e. shrinkage). With the help of major breakthroughs in laundry detergent technology and finishing equipment, GreenClean can safely Wet Clean garments labeled ‘Dry Clean Only’.

Our computer-controlled cleaning system uses an extremely gentle drum rhythm, patented fiber protection and low water levels to coax dirt and stains from your most delicate silks, woolens, linens and rayons. With the help of environmentally friendly detergents and proper finishing equipment, the ‘Wet’ Cleaning process produces superior results.

Why not Perc Dry Cleaning ?

Garments are immersed in the chemical solvent Perchloroethylene (PERC), and are extracted and dried in the same machine. PERC is an effective cleaning agent because it is able to penetrate fibers and dissolve lipophilic (non-water soluble) soils such as oils, greases and fats with minimal damage to garments.

In recent years studies have identified ecological and
human health hazards associated with PERC, prompting governments to restrict usage and consumers to seek alternatives. In August 2005, a Canadian Federal legislation will force Dry Cleaners to restrict the amount of PERC (aka tetrachloroethylene) used in the dry cleaning process. Various global agencies like the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Institute for Occupational Safety (NIOSH), and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classify PERC as a probable carcinogen.

Do you want your clothes, body, and environment exposed to this chemical?

Its simple, we seeked out an alternative to dry-cleaning because we believe this chemical does more harm than good.
